LITHIUM ION BATTERIES

There are various kinds of "lithium ion" battery
You can refer to wikipedia for more information but we call "li-ion"
all those batteries with lithium, manganese and/or cobalt oxide (LiMnO2, LMN, LiMnCo)
and "LFP" as Lithium Iron Phosphate, or LiFePO4 (although LFP is also a "lithium ion")
Most of the batteries we use in the e-bikes and sell are "LFP".
You can read a lot about these batteries elsewhere but the main advantages are
  • much longer life - twice, or more, recharges compared with "Li-ion"
  • much greater stability and resistance to vibration, heat and shock
  • very much less risk of combustion or fire if damaged

  • LFP batteries are exchangable for li-ion batteries but have slightly higher voltage
    and do need their different charger
    Li-ion chargers have 42v charging voltage, and LFP chargers have 43.8v
    (If you are not sure of your battery type, see under side of charger)
    Both types of charger are available separately
    Batteries of similar shape and appearance can have different input and output sockets
    These are shown at bottom of this page, and each battery's sockets are noted
    If you need a matching socket and lead, say so
    Otherwise similar "tall" batteries can have different height.
    Check the height of the locking pin. If you need to replace the sliding rail, say so

    Note that output socket on left is not a legal socket - because a matching common household plug can be plugged in and connected to wall socket. If you have battery with this socket you need to modify it, and the lead from it.
    For the other 3 sockets a matching male connection and lead is available.

    SEALED LEAD ACID SLA BATTERIES

    we do not have the cases for these because there are so many and
    each needs a key specific to its bike but we do have
    the individual 12v component batteries that you can install in your battery case
    (small soldering iron is needed)
    Consider changing your SLA battery to a much lighter LiFePO4 battery -
    if the output socket matches the lead to the motor
    The LFP battery will be much smaller and have different fixing -
    but in many cases it can be done
    The operating voltage is similar. Controller and motor won't mind -
    but you will need LFP charger.
